Books from the Kern Institute
As part of my work with the Kern Institute for the Transformation of Medical Education, I was the editor-in-chief of a weekly newsletter, the Transformational Times, a publication created at the start of the pandemic in March 2020 to keep in touch with our community. After each of the first two years, I worked with others to compile a "best of" volume of essays created by students, residents, facutly, staff, and the commuinity. Two of my essays are included in the first volume.
I am proud of the work we did to uplift the stories of our community. These books serve as a valuable reminder of what it felt like to be a heath care worker or student in the throes of the pandemic.

This book is a compilation of essays and images from the first year of the Transformatinal Times, the Kern Institute's newsletter which launched in March 2020, in response to the very earliest days of the COVID-19 pandemic. I was editor of the newsletter and co-editor of the book. I have two essays in this volume, including, "Microaggression," (p 121) and "Integrating the Humanities into Medical Education," (p 289).
