Grand Rounds - University of Wisconsin Department of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery

My friend and former resident, Sandra Lin, MD, Chair of the Department of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery at the University of Wisconsin, invited me to give Grand Rounds to her department on September 17, 2025.

We had a writing workshop on the previous afternoon. The residents read "Cric" by C. Alessandra Colaianni, MD and then wrote to a prompt.

Grand Rounds on Wednesday morning was, "Narrative Medicine and the Surgeon: When the Scalpel is Not Enough," emphasizing how clinicians can improve their skills by understanding illness narratives, the Hero's Journey, and Narrative Medicine's core concepts.

It was wonderful to meet the residents and greet friends and colleagues, including Ian, Matt, Greg, Aaron, and Tim.
